Summary

This prototype was done as a project requirement for the unrestricted elective: NM3221 (Mobile Interaction Design) during my 1st semester in NUS. It is also my first experience with UI/UX design. I was to select a data set from data.gov.sg and create a prototype solution that could solve a problem in the selected area. I decided to work with the carpark dataset.

What is it?

ParkEasy is a carpark application to help drivers find available parking lots easily. The application allows drivers to quickly find nearby parking spaces that are affordable and with high availability, saving them time in their parking process.

Problem:

  • Difficulty in finding affordable carparks
  • It is time consuming to find available parking slots
  • Drivers have to manually calculate fee payable before deciding to park
  • Difficulty in finding the exits of the carpark
  • Drivers tend to forget where they parked their car
  • Troublesome to pay with physical parking coupons
  • Solution:

Parkeasy has a search option that allows driver to filter out carparks based on the parking fee prices. It includes a calculator that allows drivers to estimate how much they have to pay if they were to park at the carpark. After the driver has confirmed on a parking location, he enters the carpark and a navigation map within the carpark will appear, to show which parking slots are still available for parking.

Once the car has been successfully parked, the driver can make payment through the application. The home screen will be updated to show the time remaining for the parking. When returning to their car, the driver can choose the "Find my car" option to help them find their car quickly or immediately navigate out of the carpark with the help of the inbuilt GPS navigation system through the "Find Exit" button.
